They do not strive to invent something radically new, but improve their skills, creating music that sounds familiar and fresh at the same time. This work will please both long-time fans and those who are just starting to get acquainted with Metallica's work. The album combines aggression and melody, drive and lyrics - everything for which we love Metallica.
Special attention should be paid to producer Greg Fidelman, who has been collaborating with the band for a long time. He managed to achieve a powerful and rich sound, ideal for Metallica's music. Fidelman did not try to invent something new, but did his job at the highest level, emphasizing all the strengths of the band. The album began during the pandemic, with the band members forced to collaborate remotely, and the producer jokes that “ideas had to be realized via Zoom.” The recording involved Marshall amps modified by master Eddie Van Halen, as well as a rack of guitars from scene veterans, including Hetfield’s very own guitar for fast riffs.
While the album doesn’t offer any radical revelations or revolutionary ideas, it leaves a pleasant impression. Metallica don’t chase trends or other people’s expectations; they do what they do best — play high-quality, uncompromising metal. “72 Seasons” confirms Metallica’s status as one of the most significant and influential bands in the history of heavy music.
