The Bolshoi Theatre is coming on tour to the UAE for the first time. Performances of Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker, staged by Yuri Grigorovich, will take place on the stage of the Dubai Opera. The performance will be performed by the leading soloists of the Bolshoi Ballet Company. Musical accompaniment is provided by the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra conducted by Pavel Klinichev.
Grigorovich turned Hoffmann's Christmas tale into a philosophical reflection on the unattainability of ideal love. The romantic introspection embedded by the choreographer in a familiar plot made this ballet a classic of the 20th century. The choreography is built as a continuous dance narrative about growing up: the battle with the mice is just the beginning of the heroes' journey to the top of the Christmas tree. Simon Virsaladze's scenography, restrained and refined at the same time, creates a special poetic world in which a childhood dream acquires the scale of a great philosophical story.
The tour is organized by Dubai Opera in cooperation with Art Seasons and is timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary season of the venue. The Dubai Opera is located in Downtown Dubai, next to the Burj Khalifa.
