Description

The Philadelphia 76ers, also known as the Sixers, are an American professional basketball team based in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The team competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA), playing in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Their home arena is the Wells Fargo Center, located in the South Philadelphia sports district.

The team was founded in 1946 and was originally called the Syracuse Nationals. They are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA and one of eight teams that survived the league's first decade. The team is currently managed by Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment (HBSE), a company founded by Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who purchased the team in 2011.

The 76ers have a rich legacy, featuring numerous Hall of Fame players including Dolph Schayes, Hal Greer, Wilt Chamberlain, Chet Walker, Billy Cunningham, George McGinnis, Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, and Allen Iverson.

The team has won three NBA championships. The first title came as the Syracuse Nationals in 1955, before moving to Philadelphia. They won their second title in 1967 with Wilt Chamberlain on board. Their third title came in 1983, thanks to the efforts of Julius Erving and Moses Malone. The team returned to the NBA Finals only once after that, in 2001 under Allen Iverson, but lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Chamberlain, Irving, Malone, Iverson and Joel Embiid were named the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP), winning the award seven times in total.
