Matvey Aleksandrovich Melnikov (born March 2, 1990, Krymsk), better known by his stage name Mot — Russian musician, rapper. From March 1, 2013 to the present, he is an artist of the “Black Star Inc.” label.

Early period

Matvey Melnikov was born in Krymsk. At the age of 5, he moved to Krasnodar with his family. After 9 years of schooling, at the age of fifteen, he moved to Moscow. At the same time, his passion for hip-hop began, and at the same time he studied singing and dancing. In high school he took part in school theater productions. After graduating from school with a gold medal, Melnikov entered Moscow State University to major in economics-manager. In 2012, he defended his diploma and entered graduate school.

Musical career

Mot began writing his first songs in 2006: they were banter freestyles dedicated to Russian rap. Later, the musician began to write more serious lyrics composed to the music of Casta and CunninLynguists. In 2007, Matvey began recording at the GLSS studio, under whose instrumentals he took part in the “Battle for Respect” competition in 2009, where he was in the Top 40 among 2,000 participants. There, on the advice of Legalize, he changed his nickname “BthaMoT2bdabot” to "Mot". In 2011, he performed in Luzhniki at the First International Hip-Hop Summit, where, in addition to famous Russian rappers, foreign performers came: the group Onyx and Raekwon.

Mot's debut album was released in January 2011 and was called Remote. The album contained 12 tracks, including collaborations with musician Ilya Kireev, Katrin Mokko and ms. Sounday. The album was recorded and mixed by Denis KOKA. In September 2011, a video for the song “Millions of Stars” was presented.

In February 2012, Mot's second album was released — "Repair". It included 11 tracks, and guest performers took part in the recording — L’One, LIYA, Katya Nova and Ilya Kireev. In October of this year, Matvey’s video for the song “To the Shores” was released. It was filmed in Matvey's hometown of Krymsk, where a devastating flood occurred earlier in July of the same year. The presentation of the video took place on October 5 at the Lookin Rooms club. According to a survey by the site Rap.ru, the clip “To the Shores” entered the Top 5 best Russian videos of October 2012. The track itself was included for the dubbing of the documentary film “Fair Game: Hitchhiking”, shown on the Moscow-24 TV channel.

In mid-January 2013, Mot left Soul Kitchen. and becomes an artist on the Black Star Inc. label. At the beginning of March, Mot’s first single was released on this label, entitled “#MotSteletChoseli”. A video was also released for this track, directed by Rustam Romanov. Mot also worked on his third album entitled “Dash,” which was released in the fall of 2013.

March 14, 2016, the fourth studio album “Inside Out” was released. It includes collaborations with Jah Khalib, Bianca, Music Hayk and Artem Pivovarov.

On April 27, Timati released his fifth studio album, “Olympus,” in which Matvey took part in the recording of the joint track “New Russian Dream.”

On June 1, he released his fifth studio album, “92 Days.” It included 10 tracks, and guest performers took part in the recording — Timati, Misha Marvin, DJ Philchansky and Capella. For the songs “Day and Night”, “92 Days”, “At the Bottom” and “Maybe?!” clips were released.

On October 23, 2017, he released his sixth studio album, “Good Music of the Keys,” consisting of 10 songs. Artyom Pivovarov, Ani Lorak and Gayana took part in the recording of the album.

On March 7, at Yegor Creed’s concert at Crocus City Hall, he and Matvey presented the joint track “Go to Sleep,” later this track was included in Yegor Creed’s second studio album, “What Do They Know?.”

On March 22, he released his second mini-album, “What kind of people are in Hollywood (or the Oscars with subtitles).” It included 5 tracks. Released videos for 2 tracks:

March 24 — “Cards, money, two plates”

March 22 — "Escape from Showbiz" and “Flying over the cottages of Barvikha.” This is the first video that was shot on two tracks simultaneously.

On April 20, 2020, he will release his seventh studio album, “Parabola,” consisting of 14 songs.
